SECOND-STORY
STORY Lucy was home, Grandpa Adam was there, Teddy and Tommy were with him outside, She was busy inside, had not a care. Well,
she decided to go out back, check with Adam, he was gardening or something, She
thought the kids might be at " 'im," As
she slipped outside the back screen door, Tommy slipped in without her knowing,
And found out what the lock was for, Yep
he did it, to Lucy's obvious chagrin, all outside were quick to see, That Tommy
had locked himself in,
N
"No problem,' she thought---"Tommy! Unlock the
door, right now, please!" She explained and pleaded on bent knees, No
luck! Check all the openings, the windows, Tommy's screaming and Lucy Will she
find a place to enter the house? Call the neighbors? There may be someone she
could rouse, She then remembered they're gone all day, she and Adam
are upset like Tommy, But they've got to find another way, Wait! The light went on in Lucy's head, Yes I A
bedroom window was ajar, They'll find a way through it instead, It wasn't that easy she found out there was no ladder
available to get up there, Tommy's now frantic, Lucy is starting to doubt, That she can do this, Chuck's due home later, then she
sees the patio table and lounge, Are these items there only to bait her? No! Stacking them up one on the other, they'll reach
within two feet of the window, Can she climb up that stuff? Oh Brother! Up
she goes with Adam holding things steady, before he knew it she had climbed very
high, Why, it was before Adam was even ready, The
screen was reachable, using her nails, she ripped out the plastic screening,
Gosh! What if our undaunted Lucy fails? At
the top, she leaps to grab the sill, catches it firmly with both hands reaching
out, Such determination and climbing skill! She
reaches in the window, turning the crank, So far, okay, except poor Tommy, Who
didn't even know he started this prank, How
to get in, the window's higher in position, Lucy is frantic about Tommy inside,
Will all this affect his future mental condition? She gave it no thought, leaped in the &, Forward
and upward, it seemed to her, She would never get to the sill up there, As her hands and her arms went in over the ledge, she
grabbed for anything She could find to get the edge, Nothing was there, with her shoulders, wormed her way
up and fell to the floor, Then uncontrollable tears began to erupt, Lucy caught hold of Tommy, her world had its worth,
Wow! It took forever To get her emotions down to earth, Her arms and body were bruised, so sore, gotta love this
pretty lady who has time for golf, Thank Heavens She knows the score! Gordon A. Groebe April 18, 2000 |
