PLAYING IN A BUSH LEAGUE We know that George W. Bush has become our new president, our Chief, Some think the election process proved that it was stolen by some thief, Nevertheless, we will have four years of his Texas-type-ranch reign, Things in Washington for some time, I fear, will never be the same, With Clinton every day was going to be entertaining, for sure! (Even though some of his activities were other than, let’s say, “ pure”), With Mr. Bush I suspect events may be mostly commonplace and dull, Not many brilliant moves are likely to come from his skull, His “old pal” conservative appointments are certain to raise some ire, With the Democrats in Congress who, already, wish his term would expire, He’ll find it necessary to spend a lot more money to maintain good times, And larger government, Federal and state, will ensue, bet your dimes, His anticipated moves will go the way of most campaign promises, And he will confirm the skepticism of all those “Doubting Thomas’s”, In foreign affairs he’ll find he’s in a new, and for him, unusual , serious game, Nothing like the baseball one from which his millions luckily came, When he meets up with a foreign president or prime minister, His soft, “pat ‘em on the shoulder” approach won‘t go far, ‘cause sinister Is what their motives are too often and frequently may tend to be , And I’m going to bet my bucks he hasn’t got the “moxy” to see, Let’s hope he doesn’t make our lives too dangerously or adversely exciting , To be sure he doesn’t, never should meet unless Cheney he’s also inviting, He is bound to continue (and I think it is good), to continue his campaign habit, Of spending a lot of time on his ranch hunting for deer and wild rabbit, What fun! The reporters will just love trailing along, humming, “Dogie, get along”, While sleeping in some bunkhouse he has provided, while he practices his “singsong”, They’ll find that there will be no great material to write about in his life, But it might be better than his being in Washington, creating constant strife With conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats over “compassionate” stuff, In the next four years there’s going to be more and more who call it a bluff, So, what will excite everyone----if in the next presidential campaign years, George W. Bush will try to run again, despite many in his party’s fears, With Clinton as his opponent and not persistent, but inconsistent Albert Gore, Hardly likely, but, it would be a historic story if he lost-- he’d be pilloried, Especially if the “Clinton” winner in the race was not Bill, but HILLARY!
